We embrace our differences as the key element feeding our prosperity.
Today, close to 300,000 people from around the world with diverse
ethnicity call Northern
Alberta home.
Long before Europeans came, the Aboriginal peoples of Alberta,
which currently make up about 20% of our population, societies and
unique tribes. The 1800's witnessed a meeting of the European and
Aboriginal cultures. Many Métis people, of mixed European and First
Nations heritage, were born and raised in Northern Alberta

The European settlers
of the 1800's also reflected a multitude of cultures. Roughly 56% of Northern
Albertans are of British descent, while German, Ukrainian, French,
Chinese, Scandinavian and Dutch add to our diversity. Today our
region features culturally rich Francophone, Mennonite, Hutterite,
and Russian communities.

The oil boom in the 1970's witnessed our call to the world for
human resources that generated an international response. Since
that time thousands of people from continents like Africa, Asia,
South America, and Australia have added to the richness of our communities.
Canadians from other parts of the country
who have decided to make our region their home also enrich us.
That's Northern
Alberta!
