Ah, the summer BBQ; Grade A-Alberta Beef with sweet corn and crusty
bread! All grown to perfection in our backyard. With over 11,000
farms generating close to $1 Billion, Northern Alberta's agricultural
industry is a vibrant component of our prosperity.
If you think beef, wheat, and canola is all that's grown on
Northern Albertan farms, you're in for a surprise. In Northern
Alberta, agriculture means diversification. Northern Alberta enjoys
2900 annual hours of sunshine. With 95 frost free-days and 18 hours
of daylight during our peak growing season, we also grow products
like corn, flax, barley, peas, and alfalfa.

And these products are part of the growing
value-added sector that puts our products right on your grocery
shelf.
Along with cattle,
our ranchers raise hogs, elk, poultry, sheep, and bison. And there
is a niche of exotic farms that specialize in llamas, mink, ostrich,
and chinchilla! Not to be forgotten is Northern Alberta's famous
honey, supplied by the numerous apiaries in our region. Employment
in the Agricultural industry can be as close as the family farm or
as far as the Sales Rep placing the packaged product on the shelf.

And if it's agricultural research that attracts you,
you'll be delighted to learn that our commitment to innovation and
quality improvement is continuous. Regional research organizations,
supported by area producers and municipalities, carry out
demonstration projects and applied research trials specific to local
climatic, geographic and soil conditions. Further innovative
research specific to northern Alberta's unique growing conditions is
carried out by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at its research
facilities in Fort Vermilion and Beaverlodge.
Join us. There's lots of opportunity to grow in
Northern Alberta!
