There are many different kinds of employment opportunities in government in Northern Alberta. Federal Government departments include Environment Canada, Agriculture, and Health.  Provincial Government regional offices span a wide range of services, including Alberta Infrastructure, Justice, Natural Resource Services, Agriculture, Mental Health, Children's Services and Human Resources, and Employment.  At the local level, there are school boards and Municipal Governments that look after the day-to-day needs of Northern Albertans.

Jobs in this sector include policy advisors, environmental managers, engineers, planners, social workers, economic development officers, and politicians.  High demand jobs include building inspectors, administrators, water and wastewater treatment specialists, and heavy equipment mechanics.
