Oil and Gas
The oil and gas industry is the engine that runs Alberta. Long known as Canada's energy province, Alberta produces 55% of Canadian conventional crude oil, and 80% of its natural gas. Alberta's oil sands, located entirely in Northern Alberta, are one of the world's two largest sources of bitumen.
With Northern Alberta contributing 52% to Alberta's oil production, 37% of its gas production and 100% of the Province's oil sands development, our region is a significant component of the prosperity of Alberta. In fact Northern Alberta's oil and gas industry generates over $13.1 billion dollars.
There is a continuous demand for staff in the oil and gas industry, both in the upstream exploration section and the midstream production section, as well as the downstream retail section. High demand jobs include equipment operators, geologists, surveyors, soil scientists, trades people, engineers, instrumentation specialists, drillers, welders, field supervisors, sales representatives, and a host of retail and administrative services.
